Workplace Injury

Specialised in the treatment and rehabilitation of workplace injury

Here at Sydney Health Physiotherapy, we are specialists in worker’s compensation rehabilitation. If you work for a legally registered company, you will be covered under the worker’s compensation scheme regardless of your citizenship status nor your employment status.

As an injured worker, what can you do for yourself?

If you have suffered an injury at work and is sure that you have injured yourself whilst doing your duties, you need to report this incident to your manager. You will need to:

  1. See a General Practitioner and describe the incident and the injury.

  2. Complete an injury incident form.

  3. If the symptom of the injury persists, ask your GP to refer you to a Physiotherapist to start treatment and rehabilitation.

If the injury is musculoskeletal in nature (sprains and strains and repetitive use injury), and your symptom is persisting, your company will need to report your case to a WorkCover insurance company. You will need to bring 2 details to us:

  1. The worker’s compensation insurance company name.

  2. Your allocated claim number.

This process is generally quite easy and straightforward. Workers of any status will be eligible for workers compensation cover.

Common misconceptions

We have cases where eligible injured workers forego being treated for their injury because they thought:

  • That reporting an injury incident involves lots of paperwork.

  • Reporting an incident will cause economic liabilities to their company.

  • Being non-resident/non-citizen of Australia disqualifies them from coverage.

  • The company's human resources and management team questions their work capability.

  • Their prospect for future work opportunities may be compromised.

You need to understand your rights and the need to address your injury. The above concerns are understandable, but we are here to assure you that none of the above is going to be an issue when you report your injury incident. Here in Sydney Health Physiotherapy, not only will we help you with recovery, but we will also work with you, your doctors, as well as your company, to ensure your safe and durable return to work. After all, this is what really matters in the end.

 Treatments

Dry needling

The dry needling treatment provides therapeutic effects to muscles and tendons. This technique focuses on stimulating deep capillary blood flow within your muscle tissue and improve blood circulation.

Manual massage

Manual massage over the muscle of concern to remove tension and stress on the affected area. This technique will vary depending on the state of the muscle.

Physiotherapy can also be seen as the most effective means to manage and mitigate pain. We are particularly specialised in the treatment of recurring neck and upper back pain in office workers who works for long hours.

Ultrasound therapy

Ultrasound wave penetrates to the deeper tissues for internal heating. It is effective in the recovery of injured tendon and ligaments.

Kinesio taping

Kinesiology taping for posture is one of the most commonly used technique to support and promote your body to retain a better and more pain-free posture. This is effective for office workers with the upper cross syndrome.

Recovery exercise program

We will guide you through specific exercises with the correct technique to ensure that you recover timely. Each exercise is grade-specific and sets to work on different aspects of your bodily function such as strength, mobility, coordination, endurance. Following our path set for you, and you will continuously improve.

Whether it is walking, running, or playing sports, knowing that your body is ready will give you confidence. We focus on making your movements pain-free and strong.
